ALL THE SINGLE MOMMIES
Within the hearts of single mothers there exists a force of nature, an embodiment of resilience, strength, and unwavering love. They are the unsung heroes, the silent warriors, the single mothers of the world. On this Mother's Day, as we shower love and appreciation, let us turn our gaze towards these incredible women who navigate the single life and motherhood with grace and determination.
In the United States, single motherhood is a rising phenomenon, encompassing 80% of all single parents. Among them, a diverse array of stories unfold: 45% are bravely navigating the waters of divorce or separation, 1.7% have endured the heartache of widowhood, and 34% have embarked on the journey of motherhood solo from the start. Each story is unique, each path winding and unpredictable, but all share a common thread of strength and resilience.

Despite the stigma that persists in some corners of society, single motherhood is not a mark of failure, but a testament to the indomitable spirit of these women. They are the embodiment of courage, facing each day with determination and grace. They are mothers who have chosen this path, mothers who have been thrust into it by circumstance, and mothers who wear the badge of spinster-hood with pride.
These women are not just mothers; they are the CEOs of their households, the captains of their ships, navigating the turbulent seas of parenthood with unwavering resolve. They are the ones who juggle multiple roles with finesse, from chauffeur to chef, from nurse to negotiator. They are the ones who shoulder the burden of decision-making, the weight of worry, and the responsibility of raising the next generation.
I was raised in a household run by a divorced single, mother. My grandmother was also a version of single, she was widow who tragically lost the love of her life as a newlywed. I was never pressured to rush into relationships or motherhood by my mother or grandmother. These two women were incredible examples of determination, unconditional love, kindness, support and the spread of responsibility. I honor my mother and grandmother on Mother’s Day.
We should also acknowledge single motherhood is not just about struggle and sacrifice; it is also a celebration of strength and empowerment. Today, more than ever, single mothers are reclaiming their narratives, rewriting the script, and shattering stereotypes. They are educated, empowered, and financially independent, defying the odds and forging their own paths.
Yet, amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life, let us not forget the countless statistics that illuminate the sheer magnitude of their contribution. From the staggering 71.3% of mothers in the workforce to the 84% who are the sole preparers of meals in their households, single mothers are the backbone of our society, driving progress and shaping the future.
Moms are the unsung heroes, the silent warriors, the embodiment of resilience and strength. Let’s honor their lives, applaud their achievements, and above all, let us recognize the profound impact they have on our lives and our communities. To all the single mommies out there, we salute you. You are not just mothers; you are superheroes, and today, we celebrate you. Happy Mother's Day!
